I think that 6 fighters and 1 cleric is a lot more balanced than 6 clerics and 1 fighter. The 6 fighters in a game with one cleric won't feel as left out as the 1 fighter in a group of 6 clerics. It's just a different type of game when you have that many non casters. I feel like people online assume you cant have fun with out OMGWTFPWNING Magic from full casters. I played in a great game for a little over a year that had a Monk, Fighter, Hexblade, Ranger and a Bard/Rogue. We had a lot of fun and found a lot of creative mundane solutions to problems that are non issues with high level casters. Did it make the game harder on us?? Probably, but the challenge is part of the fun right?? Like everyone says your not suppose to try and "Win" D&D Also is it surprising that weak characters die first?? if you only have 2HD in a party full of 6HD characters you are going to have to be cautious to stay alive. Some how i get the feeling the Feral Half Dragon is charging deep into the mix early in the fight to use his pounce and is getting in over his head. This is just a speculation but i wouldn't be surprised if it was the case. I had flying kick on the Monk in the game i mentioned above and had to learn not to get charge happy the hard way.
