Back last September over at BRP Central we made an announcement about the future of the RuneQuest TTRPG. As announced then, we're working on a Revised RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha core rule book, significantly shorter than the existing RQG core rule book—about 60% the size. Combat rules are cleaned up, character generation is much quicker, and overall the rules are far clearer, more concise, and better presented. Also includes a Bestiary. The core project team for this is Mark Morrison, Brian Holland, and me (you may have seen the pic of us hard at work I posted on social media the other day). We're making excellent progress on this project and will have it wrapped up soon. Please note, this is entirely separate to the project our Chaosium colleague Jeff Richard is working on, with creative input from Mike Mearls. That's an exciting all-new version of the game which has as its focus adventuring in Pavis and the Big Rubble. RQG is continuing as a supported game line. The revised RQG rulebook is pitched for newcomers to be able to pick up and play the game. They will not need to own the RuneQuest Starter Set. It will be fully compatible with everything released for the RQG line, both before and after the book comes out. We're working on dramatically increasing the release schedule for RQG (with a focus on playable content). That is going to take time. So far, we've released four titles (this, this, this, and this), and there's more very cool stuff in various stages of development. It would have been good to have Lands of RuneQuest: Sartar listed in the What's Coming for the First Half of 2026 post on the Chaosium news blog, but we were unable to confirm the release date in time. As we have said all along, we're committed to completing the Cults of RuneQuest series, and will develop the core setting some more, but the emphasis is going to be on releasing scenarios and playable content, more than reference works that primarily appeal to readers. For RuneQuest to thrive and grow, we know we need to give fans stuff to game with in Glorantha, to learn about and love the setting through play (the same way many of us did, when we were a lot younger). — MOB, Chaosium Inc.
