They still suck by the way, they just don't suck as much as they did before.

3 beefs, can't full attack and maneuver at all. Cause yeah holding down a trigger is really tough and takes a ton of concentration. You can full attack on a horse apparently and horses don't always do as their told, but full attack in a star ship when all you have to do is hold down a trigger nope.

And AC is not improved by skill. It is harder to get in a position to even be able to take a shot at someone because of skill, but once you can shoot it's pathetically easy to hit.

And the stats for some shields and armor are pathetically low. ATATs get smoked by snow speaders in a couple rounds, star destroyers go down in flames to a couple x wings ina couple rounds as well. (the latter can be partially corrected depending on how you work the rules on shield opperators)

Well I haven't analysed them fully for discrepancies yet but the new rules were lots of fun to play.

Each player can now contribute to do various actions. Everyone particiapted and brought different skills to the action. Once we get the hang of all the options it only looks to get better.

I understand your sentiment. However I think that means your out of luck as the rules have only been printed in RCR and SW Gamer.

FWIW the RCR is a vast improvement on the orginal book. I have no doubt there will be another edition of the rule book for Ep III but I think it will be just a tidy up of the current revised book (erratas etc). It won't change the current revised rules anywhere to the extent of the substantive changes needed to fix the original book.

Yes the revised rules are an improvement, a big improvement even in some areas. The rules for everyone participating in starship combat are great, the rest of the rules for starship combat are at best mediocre. By the way the rules for everyone participating are how I can see the shields on a star destroyer functioning somewhat like they should. If you have enough shield operators working and constantly taking move actions to fix shields those shields won't go down very easily. Still the DR or shield points should of been higher, pilot skills should imporve the AC, and full attacks should be possible by the pilot evenwhile maneuvering just at a penalty.

Shard, I hear what you're saying about a good Pilot not being able to increase his ship's AC. But I wanted to make one observation from my (very limited) experience with this system. If you use the defense bonuses from speed as listed, the ships are already going to get a bonus if they are travelling fast. If you let a decent pilot beef this up even more, I'd say you run the risk of lower level characters not being able to hit anything at all. Especially at the early levels, the characters who are not dedicated pilots are unlikely to have Starship Operations and therefore suffer the non-proficiency penalty to all attacks they make.

After all, it is easy for someone to have their Pilot skill bonus FAR exceed their ranged attack bonus.

Again, I haven't used these rules extensively and I may be way off base. But it seems like characters under 5th level who aren't optimized for space combat are never going to hit a TIE fighter if I let the TIE add defense for being a good pilot.

Thoughts?

I think pilot skill should add to AC though not at a 1 to 1 ratio. What I was considering is two options base AC for mooks piloting things is as listed, if you have 5 ranks in pilot you get 1/2 your class defense bonus added to this, if you have 5 ranks in pilot + the appicable starship opperation feat you get your entire class bonus added to base AC. The other option would be to make dodge a maneuver, and set various DCs for various bonuses. I was thinking something like DC5 +2, DC10+4 etc.

I'm almost more irritated with not letting people get full attacks while they manever, you know kind of how Jengo Fett was blazing away while piloting his ship through the equivelent to an asteroid field and chasing Ben while he was maneuveing all over the place. Though I wouldn't do one without the other. If you can full attack and manuever and the ACs still just suck ships will go down in flames wuick, if you imporve the AC based on pilot skill but don't allow full attacks and maneuvering then ships will almost never go down.

With all those laser fire, only a few have hit Obi-Wan's fighter.

Then again, Jango was able to establish pursuit (i.e., he dogtailed Obi-Wan), so at least he will always have one attack as a free action, he could use this with fire-linked weapons.

It's not a matter of maintaining the squeeze on the weapon's fire control.

Although I must admit, I prefer to limit only one move action. I mean to be able to go at one declared speed but move more double the number of squares that would put you beyond the declared speed is ridiculous.
