He was raised by his grandmother as his mother died at birth and his father was unknown. His grandmother was a friendly but hard woman, unafraid to give her grandson a good dressing down in french whenever he got into trouble. She managed to keep him out of the worst gangs and he ended up being a police officer. When asked to help the FBI in the investigation of some gang-related killings that spilled across state lines they were impressed with his knowledge of voodoo-rituals used by both the jamaican and haitian gangs in the ritual sacrificial killings.
