Erf retrieves a heavy silver chalice studded with semiprecious stones and worked with relief carvings featuring fantastical animals who are either performing some kind of intricate dance or else locked in deadly combat. It's hard to tell, since the silver has tarnished a bit where the water contacted it. But it is heavy and well-made, and Erf reckons that with a bit of polish it might fetch as much as 20 platinum dragons. Gildrim stomps out of the little glade, sword clean and bits of twig in his beard. He gestures at the unconscious grigs. "Wha d'ye maun t'dae wi' tha' lot?" [sblock=on appraise]For the life of me, I can't figure out how appraise is supposed to be even remotely useful as a game mechanic. It seems to presuppose the existence of some kind of haggling mini-game, but there don't seem to be any rules for such a thing, and if there were, I think I would work pretty hard to avoid ever getting involved with it. I mean, imagine: "you think the thingamabob is worth 200g based on your appraise roll, but the shopkeeper offers you 150. Do you take it, or make a diplomacy or bluff check to convince him it's worth more?" Ugh. PbPs are slow enough without that nonsense. The short version of which is, don't bother making appraise checks in my games. :) [/sblock]
