USB drive connected to a cellphone?

I've got a USB drive which I carry around with me at all times, and which I use to store miscellaneous data. Of course, not being a cyborg, I need a computer to actually view that data.

Also, I've got a cellphone, a Nokia 5210 - if you've seen Blade Trinity, it's the one the familiar holds while dangling from the rooftop. Mine is even the same color. Disturbing to say the least... anyway, the cellphone doesn't have much memory, certainly nowhere close to the 512 Mb of the USB drive, and it isn't as handy to connect to a computer. And the 5210 can't be used to view arbitrary files on a USB drive connected to it AFAIK.

However, I'm planning on changing my cellphone some time in the future, and as you may be suspecting I'd like to be able to use it to read text files from the USB drive on the cellphone display. I can't afford a PDA, but this sounds like a pretty reasonable use for a cellphone. If something has a display and a USB port, reading a text file is only a matter of software, but the phone has to be able to understand the USB filesystem.

Many cellphones have a USB port, but most of the times it is supposed to be only used to connect to a computer. I'd like to be able to pull out the phone from my right pocket, then pull out the USB drive from my left pocket, stuff the latter into the former, fiddle a bit with the phone and then read (and ideally edit) the files with no other device. A cable may have to figure somewhere in the equation, but I can tolerate that.

So I'm trying to figure out which cellphone I should buy, and I'm afraid this question is a bit too technical for the average cellphone store clerk. Has anyone been able to do this? With what model(s)?
