Uses for an immovable rod?

What uses have your characters come up with for an immovable rod in the past? What uses exist? This is a fun item, there has got to be creative ways of using it.

I'm planning to toss one at my players and see what they can do with it. Should provide for hours of entertainment. At least for me.

I used it once to avoid being swept up in a rivers very strong current.

Somewhere this was discussed before but I can't find it. There were well over 100 ways to use them...some funny, some useful, some stupid. Maybe someone else can link the thread.
