I've been bouncing this idea around for a while, and thought you folks could help...
A character can choose a core class, and increase its overall power by taking an ECL hit. Core class abilities could not be 'purchased' outside of their class.
For example, a fighter could increase their Ref and WIll saves to 'Good' by taking a +2 ECL (1 for each). Their base ability would be their advanced feat progression.
A wizard could increase their BaB, Fort, and Ref saves with a +5 ECL hit (2 for each increase in BaB, 1 for each save increase). Their base ability would be their spells.
My biggest problem is adapting this to clerics and monks (the best of everything with a +2 ECL!?), although I'm sure there are others. Maybe set up the monk so that the increase in the Flurry of blows BaB also requires an ECL increase?
