Using EL to determine Treasure

From my understanding, when dealing with a group of creatures, you use the EL of the group to determine where to roll on the Treasure Table in the DMG.

However, what about if the group consists of creatures who have a treasure rating of "standard", "quadruple", "none", "gems only", etc.?

How do you deal with generating treasure for multiple creatures with different treasure types?

You could average out the multipliers (x1, x3, x0 etc) and try and make up a mix that roughly approximates the composition according to the group of monsters to whom the treasure belongs I guess.

See the MM 3.5 page 316.

the short answer is
"standard", you roll for each type of treasure (coins, goods, items) and follow what the tables and % rolls come out to be.

"quadruple", do the above process four times for each type of treasure. each time you go through the tables, it is with the same EL.

"none", they don't carry treasure. no need to roll. (saves the DM work!!)

"gems only", roll on the appropriate Goods column and treat any "art" results as gems instead.

One other that I want to add.
"nonflamible", if the table the item you rolled contains only flamible items, back up a step and reroll until you get to a table that can give you an appropriate item.

I would recommend just calculating the EL of each subset as appropriate, generating the indicated treasure, and then adding it all together. The math should work out correctly for the EL of a subset of a larger encounter.

Thanks for the answers everyone. :)

In regards to the above quote, on the same page it also states: (for groups of creatures, use the Encounter Level for the Encounter instead).

I take this to mean that if there is more than 1 creature, you would just roll once on the Treasure Table using the EL for the encounter.

That is correct. I forgot to post that part with my explination.
