Using Urban Arcana as a base for an Animorphs RPG

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Okay, It crossed my mind earlier, while I was having my morning cup of coffee, that I could use Urban Arcana as a base for a variant Animorph type of game. Of course, I'd have bunch of houseruling to do, and detail quite a bit for an Animorph Advanced Class.

I'm not sure, but I think there is some kind of magic in the Animorphs universe. The campaign I'm thinking of though, would pretty much allow the heroes to take the Animorph advanced class. Right off the bat, I'd say that there is no divine magic, only arcane.

Anybody care to comment on this?

Let me say right off the bat that I truly dislike Animorphs; whats cool for a twelve-year old isn't quite so neat to a 19-year old. Anyway, I wouldn't suggest making an entirely new class to reflect their shape-changing powers. The problem is that the animorphs have just the one trick and no other supernatural abilities; maybe a series of feats? Something like one entry feat, followed by one feat per family. Like, Transform: Mammal, or Transform: Insect. The feat tree should run from the most human to the most inhuman; you're not turning yourself into sentient lichen at first level. Treat transformation as a Polymorph spell, cast as a Druid with caster level= the minimum level required. Maybe a spell-like ability usable an infinite number of times per-day?

My oldest son (11) and I kicked this idea around briefly. Let me know if you need help. He has a doctorate in Animorphology.

And I think it's a great idea. I've never read any of the books, but something like this (licensed properly) could bring some fresh young faces into RPG gaming and away from those cursed X(rement) Boxes and whatnot.
