The Death on the Treklant Trilogy for d20 fantasy roleplaying By Troll Lord Games Introduction: This series of early d20 adventures by Troll Lord Games will take characters from levels 1 through 6 and provide an awesome atmosphere and story for a DM and players who thought they'd seen it all. Vakhund: Into the Unknown By Davis Chenault $6.95 24-page d20 adventure ISBN: 1-931275-11-4 Vakhund, Into the Unknown: The cover jumps at you, just like the Wolfen creature jumping at the four hapless adventurers in the picture! The inside cover has all the overland maps needed to play, cartography is very clear and functional. Taking a break from their higher fantasy world of Erde in After Winter Dark, this adventure is set in "the grimly realistic world of Inzae", and is an excellent first adventure for PC's (a few Troll Lord lines will be in this Inzae setting, which show a more gritty, realistic fantasy game genre like Warhammer than the more heroic settings). At the same time, the continuous good naming conventions felt in all Troll Lord products is evident here, making a fit into any campaign no issue. The area of the story is a land known as the Dampfrat, and the flavor and feel is very reminiscent of medieval Germany, and the writing makes Warhammer's Old World look like Disneyland. It's an overland adventure centering on rescuing a powerful merchant's daughter from the grips of evil. d20 mechanics are in good order and the action continues with cool, purposeful encounters that drive a compelling story. Written to truly immerse the PC's in the setting and get their imaginations to see the world around them (another trademark of Troll Lord), this adventure is the first in the "Death on the Treklant" trilogy, followed up with Dzeebagd, Under Dark and Misty Ground and concluded with Felsentheim: Dogs of War. -Jeff Ibach
