I am currently thinking of suggesting this race to my DM in case my new character that I spent way too much time working on dies. I kinda like having flight as an option, but most races either have level adjustments through the roof or need to have several feats in order to gain flight (aasimar or tiefling). I have looked at the raptorians and sorta liked them but the art is a huge turn off. I guess you could consider this race as perhaps being more human like or half-raptorian half-human. The race would get some of the same features as the raptorians. Base land speed is 20, flight speed is 40 (maneuverability is based on HD) At first HD the raptorian gets full flight capabilities, but only poor maneuverability (its clumsy, poor, average, good, perfect right?). Also until a raptorian gains its 5th hit die it can only sustain flight 1 minute per HD(or should it be 1 round per HD?). The explanation is wing strength, as time passes the raptorian grows stronger wings and practices more. Also I disliked the 1 round per con mod being harsh, also there birds so having a high con is rather strange. At 5th HD maneuverablity goes up to average and no longer has limitations on flight time. The reason here is full maturity for the wings (might be a tad too early but 10HD for regular is really tough). They keep the racial abilites for the diving charge, but lose the racial ability wing-aid movement. Also it drops the talons (my asectics personally). The ability to glide goes away as well. I guess the racial prof for foot bows and the bonus to climb can go away also. The favored class thing might depend, if they are more humanlike than I would say any class. In exchange for losing the talons, gliding, bonuses to jump and climb, I thought about stat bonuses. A +2 for Str and a +2 for Dex. These are from the needed strength and agility to fly. However this comes at a cost of a -2 to Con and a -2 for Int. The -2 to Con is logically from hollow bones for flight and the -2 to Int is that flying is mostly instinctive. The dex bonus should probably be Wis under this reasoning. This is all the changes I can think of. I think the stat bonuses might still be a little to much for a Level adjustment 0 race. But I would like to know what you guys think before I suggest it to my DM.
