Various Druid Questions

Is an animal companion considered under the umbrella of the experience points awarded for killing a druid? Is it similar to a summoned creature or familiar, or is the animal companion an enemy in and of itself, with concomitant experience point value?

What exactly is the mechanic for using animal friendship on an animal already befriended by a druid or ranger? Is it merely "now he's my friend instead" (provided you are successful in befriending an animal of the proper hit dice) or is there more to it?

I'll probably have more, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Yes.

This is silly.

A sixth-level druid who lives all the time in the woods can have 2 brown bears as companions.

2 brown bears by themselves are an EL 5 encounter. They're CR 3 each.

Adding the druid to the mix gets rid of the CR3 XP and makes it an EL6 encounter. You'll hardly get any more XP for the druid + brown bears than you would for the brown bears alone.

IMC, I award half-XP for companions (paladin's mounts, animal companions, and cohorts etc. gained through the leadership feat). Or at least, I'd handle it that way if I kept track of XP.
