vehicle combat in Anime!

Ok for all you anime fans out there I need some help. I am looking for any anime that has vehicle comabt as the main story or part of the story/world. Basicly looking anime version of Cars Wars, Twisted Metal or Death Race 2000. What i am not looking are transforming cars to robot or vise versa so yes that's half of anime gone, so no robotech or transformers or anything like that. Speed Racer is not what I am look for, I want weapons mounted vehicles destroying everything .

Venus Wars? Lots of vehicles and fighting as I remember. Appleseed had those awesome tanks. Akira is usually shown on a cycle.

Didn't Dominion Tank Police have a lot of vehicle combat? I can't remember since it's been at least 10 years since I saw it.

Also, there was an interesting anime one of my roommates showed me in college. It was about big robots, but it was evidently some sort of alternative WWII and these were big mecha powered by big turbine engines. They carried them around on trucks and trains and fired them up for combat. They were big lumbering machines rather than the robotech style mecha that can jump around and so forth. That's really all I remember about it though.

It's called Kishin Corps. Quite strange and interesting at the begining, but the dubbing job is hideous and the later episodes aren't as good.

Dominion : Tank Police is a good one for vehicle combat. At least tank style vehicles. If nothing else the original OVA series has one of the most original anti-tank mines ever...

Venus Wars as mentioned before is good for vehicle combat. Mostly Tanks vs mono-wheel motorcycles.

Akira of course has a very nice fight/chase scene between two biker gangs, but no guns involved. Though Kaneda does go after Tesuro at the end of the movie with a laser rifle on his motorcycle.

I've just remembered that Roger the Negotiator's Car has a lot of cool tricks. Check some plot synopsies for "Big O" episodes, they should be able to clue you in to which epsiodes. I think the best one is towards the end, when a horde of spiderish mechs are trying to get in to Rogers house to get Dorothy the Android.

As far as cars go, that's really about it. There are some little bits here and there in various series.

What exactly are you looking for this sort of anime for?

A possibility might be Lupin III (aka Rupan III aka Wolf) tho it still might not be what you're looking for. Castle of Cagliostro has a spiffy car chase scene shortly after the opening credits - nitro boost, bullet proof tires, grenades, gravity defying tricks. The older Mystery of Mamo has him being chased by a helicopter in the sewers of Paris (I think) til Goemon slices through the blades with his sword while Fuma Conspiracy has Rupan fleeing from the cops eventually going through a bathhouse and a later one has Fujiko helping out on a motorcycle.

Slightly odder would be an aerial chase in Read or Die (first of 3 episodes) over New York involving a primitive flying machine and a gigantic paper airplane.

Was City Hunter ever animated?

Bubblegum Crisis might have some. In the original there was an episode where a car became 'sentient' I think and went killing gang members.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The spiderlike Tachekomas (sp?) chased down a supertank (also spider like) tho I'm sure there's been others.

I didn't remember a whole lot about it, just that it existed. Some friends showed it to me back in the early-mid 90s when I was in college and they were trying to get me into anime.

It also has what is possibly my favorite line ever in anime when the police chief is arguing with the mayor or city council and exclaims something along the lines of "How do you expect me to keep ahead of the criminals without tactical nuclear weapons?"

I'm afraid, there just isn't really much of that in anime. If there's a lot of combat, your vehicles either transform in to bots/powered armor or it's military hardware. If there are actual cars or motorcycles, then they are simply "real/realistic" or speed racer sorts of things. There just isn't anything resembling "Car Wars" that I can think of and I went through a good chunk of the anime listed on Amazon hoping to jog my memory.
