By the way, that Mars map is upside-down, it shows the South pole on the top and the North pole on the bottom, the person who sketched that map was probably using a reflector telescope, which produces upside-down images in the eye piece, ironically it has the Martian Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere which is on top, but a real Martian ocean would be in the Northern Hemisphere, so that map is just a suggestion of what Mars would look like. Most people who draw terraformed Mars maps don't bother to add canals, because they don't see any use for them, they also tend to make Mars look too green. The mythology is that Mars is a dying desert world with advanced technology in the ruins of dried up old cities. I am sure anyone who went to the trouble of terraforming Mars, would not want a desert world. So basically Mars had a great civilization in its past, and what exists now are the remnants of that civilization. Venus on the other hand, according to the myth cooked up for it, is a young planet, it has a hot climate, just perfect for dinosaurs. Someone terraformed it in the past, no doubt about that, but the wet humid climate of Venus is not kind to ancient artifacts while the dry cold climate of Mars is. And since this setting is a variant of Dungeons & Dragons meets D20 Modern, there are two deities involved in the creation of these planets the way they are, Aphrodite and Ares. Gaia also exists on Earth, but few people know about that.The Earth is taken from our near future, in terms of the d20 Future book, this is Progress Level 6 or the Fusion Age. Mars at one time may have been Progress level 8. Mars is a world of high tech science that has fallen on hard times, Venus on the other hand is a world of Magic. Mars has some magic, and so does Earth, but on Venus characters routinely use magic and its no big deal, the goddess that runs the place also grants spells to her clerics and druids. The god that runs Mars is a bit more stingy, most people don't know he exists. Gaia is the goddess of Nature on Earth, there are some druids that receive spells from her, they tend to keep a low profile and don't openly advertise their abilities. Few people on Earth have learned the art of wizardry, they tend to be at low levels, and most sorcerers come from Venus. Venus is a Dungeons & Dragons World, Earth is a D20 Modern/Future world, Mars is a D20 Modern/Future world that was regressed to a lower progress level, progress level 3. Martians have guns, they are a mixture of hand made black powder weapons and some futuristic artifacts they have scavenged from the ruins.</blockquote>
