I've been thinking of DMing a game based in Vietnam. The two choices I have thought of are these two...any more would be welcome.

The first one is Metal Joe: Vietnam, which I might end up doing anyway. It would take place in the near future after the current Metal Joe adventure. Look here for more information Metal Joe on the Chong Chong Tang which will play a large part in it.

The second is takes place in the year 40 A.D. with the uprising against the powerful Chinese civilization led by two women, the Trung sisters who defeated one of China's best military generals and freed Vietnam. They led a 80,000 strong army of which 36 women served as military generals. (this is real history, folks)

This is not going to happen any time soon. I just wanted to see what the general interest is for something like this before I devote immense amounts of time to start working on it.

I am so in on a feudal Vietnam game!! Sounds really interesting.

Plus, I helped you set up the poll, so I get a spot reserved for me. ;)

I get a spot! :p

I like both, but I voted for Feudal because if I had to choose I'd choose that. I've always wanted to learn more about the sisters, and this is a perfect excuse.

I'm trying to decide how I'd like to run that game. Would it be like a regular D&D game like here? Or shall I mix it up and make it sort of like a strategy game also where you have armies...and you're the general...and you need to position your soliders....I dunno...brainstorming...

I haven't looked too closely at it, but the Industrial Revolution in Rokugan (IRR) game features PC's as Khans of Rokugani clans. It might give you some ideas.

That said, an OA flavored game could work well, too.

OA is too Japanese. It might be difficult to convert. I'd have to convert nearly everything. Japan is very different from mainland Asia.

Really? I don't know anything about the IR stuff at all but it looks like way to much for me to want to go through.

Yeah, they try to get some Chinese and Indian in there, but OA is more like JA, really. But is Vietnam more like OA or the PHB? Or your own creation?

As for the IRR, that was an long standing game when I got to this forum. I haven't really read through it myself. :D

I don't know yet. I haven't really started on game mechanics in depth, mostly thinking about plot, characters, situations, etc.

Ugh I hope its not going to have to be totally my own creation for game mechanics. That's more work than I really want to devote to it...but it might be a labor of love. Who knows.

You could always publish a Vietnamese Adventures e-book through Natural 20. :D

I'd probably use OA to start, at least, for the game. It's probably closer to where you want to go than the PHB.
