This is where I am in my gaming now. I'm still addicted to countless systems and exploring more as they come out, but Marvel Heroic Roleplaying (pure or modified) is still my preferred rules set and the one I love to hack (currently working on a Star Wars - Heroic Roleplaying hack). I was a HUGE fan of the Palladium system back in the day, and I'm still a huge fan of all of their products. I still remember getting Rifts when it first released while I was a sophomore in high school. I was already a fan of Beyond the Supernatural, Robotech, Ninjas & Superspies, TMNT, and Heroes Unlimited...so grabbing Rifts just seemed natural. I never had the problem with the rules that I hear about from others. They worked well for us and I preferred them to D&D 1E & 2E that was all the rage. But currently I find my character creation joy to be hampered by level-based creation/leveling systems. Just one of the many reasons that I love MHR so much as you can just make the character you want to play. You don't need to play zero-to-hero (never seeing "hero" being my experience) unless you want to structure a campaign that way. But besides the overly structured character creation system (classes/races/chosen skills) for my current tastes, I have to say that the Palladium Magic/Psionic system is still a gem to behold. No more "memorizing" spells at the beginning of the day. "Hey guys...are we going to be traveling by a cliff or mountain or something...not sure if I should memorize Featherfall for the day?" The way that you can recharge PPE (Potential Psychic Energy - "magic points") through proximity to ley lines, mystic sites, rituals, sacrifices, meditation, celestially-important times of day/year (solstice/equinox/eclipse)...this was just such an amazing addition to a magic system...pretty much explaining all of the lore/folklore/superstition/myths about magic and magic usage. I had such a fun time playing my Beyond the Supernatural Arcanist and Rifts Ley-Line Walker. Even if I'm unlikely to play the Palladium system anytime soon due to current tastes, I'm very happy that I have three bookcase shelves of Palladium games (one whole one just for Rifts!) that I can draw on for games as needed. Great settings and a lot of great memories! :)
