This chamber was used to communicate and travel to the infernal planes by means of the Dark Altar, which controls the Nexus. The Nexus itself is constructed from corrupted temple menhirs originally dedicated to seven good and neutral Flan deities. These great stones are made to bleed by a great curse placed upon them, and it is this cursed Earth Blood which has sustained Sarkus these many centuries. By drinking this blood, Sarkus has bound himself to the Dark Altar, and thus has some limited control over the Nexus. By channeling negative energy through the Altar (via his Rebuke Undead power), Sarkus has learned to summon infernal aid when threatened. Each round Sarkus channels though the Altar, 1d3 Vrock demons will appear through the Nexus to attack his opponents. The summoned tanar'ri will remain in the temple for six minutes before returning to the Abyss.</p><p></p><p>Largely starved for conversation for the last two thousand years, Sarkus would much rather chat your ear off than fight, however. Mad as a hatter, and utter convinced of his towering expertise on any topic you care to mention, he will gladly lecture you to your grave. Sarkus knows much about the extensive history of the Darkbridge Temple site, and isn't shy about sharing it with a properly fawning, boot licking audience.
