Virus Warning! Fake Microsoft Update

There is a new virus going around and it just tried to get me, but my Virus Scan killed it like a good little asssassin.


It appears to be an e-mail containing a Microsoft Update, but is actually W32/Swen@MM -- False Microsoft Update virus.


Remember, Microsoft updates are NOT done by e-mail!

Yeah, great. I must have got 50MB of w32/swem in the last 12 hours. Pity my POP inbox tops out at 20MB. Bloody hell.

It is important to remember that NO VITAL UPDATES WHATSOEVER come by e-mail. They are an integral part of an OS or an AV proggy. NEVER open an e-mail that doesn't come from a reliable source (someone you know).

If you have the faintest doubt that an e-mail is not what it seems, 99% of the time, you're right. It is better to delete an e-mail that you have 1% doubt about, than to miss a genuine e-mail.

My current job encompasses answering all incoming e-mails for 3 retail stores. Beleive you me, never take a chance. Not all crook e-mails can be detected by your AV.
