Pretty much what WotC avowed when they made the change- the combination of the popular view of "old" FR as overrun by good guys more powerful than the pcs, the exxxxtreme amount of setting info out there that led to overload and lots of "players know more about the setting than the dm" situations, etc. Now, the version of FR I preferred was the original Grey Box, but I don't think going back is suitable for something like the Realms. YMMV, of course, and obviously it does for many Realms groups.</blockquote>
