vsM Pirates?

Hello all!

I am looking to introduce my son and a friend to roleplaying, and don't want to get too bogged down in rules... and I figured this would be a great time to trot out my copy of vsMonsters by Phillip Reed. It is a very simple game system and looks very usable.

While looking for supplements, I ran across a print only vsM Engine Outlaw game {Wild West}, and references to a future CP'ish setting and a 'to be published soon {in 2004} Pirate setting.

I do have the vsM Deluxe and vsM Elves... but thats it so far.

I was wondering if anyone had news or other settings/supplements for this highly entertaining game

Maybe this is too esoteric a question for the general forum crowd


Oh well... I look forward to trying out a simple roleplaying engine that using a standard deck of cards!

I've not heard of this game, and Google seems to come up dry. Can you point me to it, I'm always curious about new games.

BTW, if your looking for a "fast" engine, have you looked at Savage Worlds? They do have a 50 Fanthoms and Pirates of the Spanish Main (the same one that was a CCG game from Wizkids) subgame.

I have vs Monsters and its 2 supplements and one post apocalyptic setting (from rpgnow and I can't find it at the moment). I never bothered with vs Outlaws or Pirates because I am not interested in either genre.

I also have the vsM SRD and did try to write a few settings. The only one that came to anything is vs Monsters for a sci-fi setting - RPGnet Forums

So, it looks like Ronin Arts is the only company doing stuff with vsM and they still have a "working on it" note about vsPirates. Although you can still find vsElves if you look for it.

It looks like none of this stuff caught on well enough to be viable. Which is a shame, since it's a slick and simple system.

Thanks for all the feedback... and if anyone finds the other vaporware settings {vsPirates, vsAliens, vsCyberpunk..etc}, I would be interesting in completing my collection

You might want to try something simple like the Heroquest boardgame or even get him a few Fighting Fantasy books.
