Message: <blockquote data-quote="TDRandall" data-source="post: 1781261" data-attributes="member: 4808">Cool thread.I watched plenty of Sliders without being a rabid fan, know of Roswell (but never watched it since I expected the over-angst of teenage cast), but never heard of Tracker.  Is it new (haven't kept up this and last season, or maybe it's short for something I would recognize.  But at this moment I have no clue -- whazzat?I remember the War of the World TV series, wish it had made it more than a season (or two?), and that's what I thought of immediately from the initial post - possible effects if it had happened, but somehow the recounting had been mythologized and sterilized.  Still the tech is available (deep in government installations a la X-files "truth") and the revivers "want it back".I also thought of "They Live".  Cool premise and somewhat freaky scenario for most of the movie.  The brainwashing advertisements, the invisible floaters that kept track of the population, the quick communication by the aliens when they realized someone was seeing them for what they were.  Unfortunately, the sheer ugliness of the aliens who evidently were "human enough" anotomically-wise and the incredibly poorly defended central hub that the protagonist just happens to uncover and destroy and thereby blow the cover off the whole thing quite ruined it, though.  Still, with slight modifications I think it could be worked into a great Modern/pseudo-future "Dark Matter" setting-like intrigue.If you want the aliens blatent, why not rip off the good things from the V movie and TV series?  I hear the sequel (shudder) has them confined to one section of the earth (the equator?) where that red bioagent can't reach or affect them.  They seem benevolent to the majority and only say they want water, but IIRC their true intent was more along the lines of Twilight Zones "To Serve Man" episode.Ah, great memories (mostly).--------------------------------------- edited stuff below -------I didn't want to insert into that developing thread with the specific ships and such for War of the Worlds, but thanks for the info on the tripod walkers.  Now a certain British Tripod TV show that I caught many moons back (perhaps from a Canadian station) makes sense as to who the aliens actually are.  That's what I get for never actually reading the book.  Thanks!</blockquote>
