Warcraft - OGC?

Is there supposed to be any OGC in the Warcraft core book? I can't find an Open Gaming License or anything to indicate that there is open content in it. I realize they've got a special arrangement with WotC and so they very well might be exempt from it, but I would like confirmation that this is not a simple error.

(I also posted this as a comment to the only review of the book currently on ENWorld, then realized this is probably a more appropriate place for it. Sorry about the duplication.)

It was released under lisence from WotC as a D&D supplement. The rest of the products will be released under OGL (probably a lot cheaper).

On closer examination....

... It looks to me like a few of the Feats in the Warcraft book are straight out of FFG's Path Of The Sword (namely the rage-related ones). If there is no OGC in the Warcraft book, does that not violate the OGL? (Not to mention copyright law, since the license that exempts them from it doesn't apply).

bump in the night...

Does nobody have any comment on the previous post? It seems to me someone from FFG or S&S would have something to say about it.

The original core book for the Warcraft RPG is not an open d20 product, as it was published under license with WotC (and Blizzard). All other Warcraft books, however, are open -- see Manual of Monsters and Alliance & Horde Compendium, the other two releases currently available.

Magic & Mayhem, the fourth title in the line, comes out in April and will be just PACKED with OGC -- lots of crunchy goodness on the way, I promise you. :)

With regard to your suspicions of an OGL violation in the core book, I suggest that any such violation is unlikely. Quite frankly, with the number of companies publishing so many products that ultimately touch upon similar topics, some relative repetition in mechanics and/or design choices is nigh inevitable. Moreover, reading everything out there is simply impossible, for writers and editors and developers. Don't forget, as well, that Warcraft material is inspired by and based upon the Warcraft RTS games.

Still, if you do have distinct concerns about this matter, I certainly encourage you to email me personally with more specific details, and I'll look into the matter.

Thanks!

Take care,
Mike

Thanks for the input Mike. :) Look forward to seeing Magic and Mayhem along with Shadows and Light. (That still going to come out in 2004 right? )
