[small rant] i would have really liked to have jumped in with the "everything" box, but I simply cannot justify the cost. Shipping to Canada is $50.00US. this one product would cost me nearly $450.00CAD. that's crazy money for a role playing game!. $290.00 is more expensive than the Torg base game Cargo box from Kickstarter, and that came with way more perks, material and bonus content. the announced "bonus" material for 40k IMO is weak - a sample pdf of a race that's going to be in another splat book, a discount for a t-shirt and the free RPG Day adventure. the all in option was originally announced at $275, but jumped to $290. As much as I want to be a completionist, if I'm going to support both Torg and 40k, recent trends indicate I'd have to be spending more than $500/year. that's simply too rich. so, core books it is without any of the nice extras or just pick up the extras that seem nice if available as add-ons at a later date. they need to both pack more value in the "all-in" option and to figure out how to economically ship internationally. it kinda makes me sad because I have every single FFG 40k and WH Fantasy product, and I don't think I'l be able to do the same this time around as much as I'd want to. FFG's books were expensive, but 60 bucks is Waaay more affordable than $250. [/minor rant] I got a chance to play 40k at Origins this year. it was a blast. the system is solid, the mechanics worked! waaaay less whiff as compared to the FFG rules. its a better game. Ironically, the only deck that was being used at the table was the critical hits deck. which suggests to me that the other decks are highly optional.
