Message: <blockquote data-quote="Flying Toaster" data-source="post: 9694299" data-attributes="member: 7052563">Back in 1986 or so a friend of mine had WFRP 1E, but I don’t think we ever actually played it.  I glanced through it a bit and found it somewhat interesting as an alternative to D&D, but never liked the grimdark tone.  I was only a casual fan of heavy metal music and never liked most horror, so that may explain it.  Lots of OSR games go for this tone as well, and I just don’t really get it.  In fantasy games I actually do want to play a hero, and I do want the good guys to win eventually, so I was never the target demographic for this franchise.I scanned the Wikipedia article and had no idea that the RPG had such a spotty publication history, but I guess it has always played second fiddle to the miniatures game and especially to the 40K franchise.  I was amazed to discover that a small city near me (pop. 58k) has a standalone Warhammer store, but I guess those minis are a license to print money.  My county of under half a million also has no less than four FLGSs, but they seem to make their money from selling Magic and Pokemon cards and from renting gaming space.The one bit of Warhammer lore that I will always find hilarious is the Tomb King leader Settra the Imperishable being offered a chance to conquer all realities in service to the Chaos Gods.  He of course turns them down and declares forever war on all four of them with these words:“Settra does not serve - Settra RULES!!!”</blockquote>
