Eldritch Invocation
Shadow Link
Prerequisite: 7th Lvl, The Hexblade Patron, Pact of the Chain Feature
Shadow Link replaces 6th Lvl Shadow Hound with the following:
As a bonus action, you can command your Shadow Hound to magically appear at any location you can see within 60 feet of you. While the Shadow Hound is summoned it takes on its corporeal form and acts as your companion. The Shadow Hound gains a variety of benefits while it is in its corporeal form. The companion obeys your commands as best it can. It rolls for initiative like any other creature, but you determine its actions, decisions, attitudes, and so on. If you are incapacitated or absent, your companion returns to its shadow form.
In corporeal form the Shadow Hound has abilities and game statistics determined in part by your level. The Shadow Hound uses your proficiency bonus rather than its own. In addition to the areas where it normally uses its proficiency bonus, the companion also adds its proficiency bonus to its AC and to its damage rolls. Your animal companion gains proficiency in two skills; Stealth and Perception. It also becomes proficient with all saving throws. For each level you gain after 7th, your animal companion gains an additional hit die and increases its hit points accordingly. Whenever you gain the Ability Score Improvement class feature, your companion’s abilities can also improve. Your companion can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or it can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, your companion can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature. If you choose a feat instead of ability score your companion gets one addition skill it can be proficient in, of your choosing. Your companion shares your alignment, and has a personality trait and a flaw that you determine. Your companion shares your ideal, and its bond is always, “Protect my master at all cost!”
The Shadow hound gains the follow traits:
The Shadow Hound can perform the following actions:
Selecting this invocation prevents the choice of Special Familiars, you may only choose one of the normal forms for your familiar.
As a bonus action, you can command your shadow hound to return to you. It also automatically returns to you if you and the target are on different planes of existence, if you’re incapacitated.

The Shadow hound gains the follow traits:
- Vigilant Darkness. While in shadow form the hound has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks.
- Magic Resistance. The Shadow Hound has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
- Frightening Demise. When the Shadow Hound is reduced to 0 hit points it explodes into a shadowy mist and returns to its shadow form at the master’s side. Each creature in that area must make a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw, becoming frightened on a failed save. Successful save ends the condition. The Shadow Hound will require a long rest before it can appear in its corporeal form again.
- Light Weakness. While in direct sunlight or divine light, the shadow hound has disadvantages on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws.
The Shadow Hound can perform the following actions:
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +Warlock Proficiency to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (2d4 + 2 + Warlock Proficiency) piercing damage, plus (2d6 + Warlock Proficiency) necrotic damage.
- Necrotic Breath (Recharge 5-6). The hound exhales a shadowy mist in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking (6d6 + Warlock Proficiency) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
- Invisibility. The hound magically turns invisible until it attacks or until its concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell). Any equipment the hound wears or carries is invisible with it.
Selecting this invocation prevents the choice of Special Familiars, you may only choose one of the normal forms for your familiar.
As a bonus action, you can command your shadow hound to return to you. It also automatically returns to you if you and the target are on different planes of existence, if you’re incapacitated.
