So how do I figure it. By the level of the envocation? With things that say, caster level 5th, Does an envocation that is usually level five cover it?

What does practiced speller-thingy do for him?

Practiced Spellcaster is a feat that gives you +4 caster levels. But it won't allow your caster level to exceed your character level; so a straight 9th level warlock with the feat won't be treated as a 13th level warlock.

The benefit of the feat is for those who are multiclassed with a non-casting class, to give them a boost to make up for the loss of caster levels. So while it won't benefit a straight caster, if you had a warlock 7/rogue 5, for example, then your caster level as a warlock would be effectively 11, helping make up for the fact that you're a 12th level character with only 7 caster levels.

As to the original question, look for prestige classes whose prerequisites are "caster level" rather than "able to cast x level spells", since warlocks don't cast spells. In looking at some of the PrC's that a warlock could take, however, I've found that the benefits of the class are diminished, as the abilities granted by the class often enhance cast spells.

So, is there any prestige that is based on/for a warlock?
Remember that a Warlock still has an arcane caster level equal to his Warlock levels. So while "ability to cast Xth level spells" is impossible, "caster level Xth" is possible. To make it simpler, just look on page 18 of Complete Arcane. In the "Best For" collum on the right it lists which classes work well with the PrC in CA, and you just have to find the ones that list Warlock. They are: Acolyte of the Skin, Blood Magus, Enlightened Fist, Green Star Adpet, Mindbender, Suel Arcanamach, and Wild Magus. There are also some in Complete Adventurer that work, I know Daggerspell Adept has been mentioned repeatedly.
