[QUOTE="DM_Jeff, post: 1989074, member: 3687"] At its core, it's a world that was once mighty and plentiful in heroes and high adventure, but through a series of mass killings called the Assassin's Strike, all the heroes were killed off. The bad guys have won, and now your PC's are alone in a world of evil, the last good guys. BUT it is not Midnight-level "dark and dreary". There are no halflings or gnomes, either. There are a few new races, and the classics are very well ingraved int he history of the world, elves research for immortality by experimenting on humans. Dwarves stay fast in their underground holds, the last bastion fending off an eruption of monsters from the depths below boiling out into the surface world. The surface was dominated by a great single human empire which fell and split apart into separate nations and city-states. And then there are the Medusan Lords...from the AEG website: "The most powerful beings in the Accordlands, however, are a super-secret cabal of evil masterminds known only as the Medusan Lords. Through their hidden power and influence, they shape and guide events throughout the Accordlands to their own nefarious ends. Their very name strikes terror into the heart of the most jaded adventurer, and only they can claim to know their ultimate purpose. Many believe the Assassins Strike was the work of the Medusan Lords. In a single blood-drenched night, assassins swept through every city and town in the Accordlands and murdered prominent leaders, heroes, clergy, anyone who might be a force for peace and justice. Lawlessness, chaos, and death are the rule, and peace, compassion, and justice are all but forgotten. No one knows who they are or where they came from, but one thing is certain; they are feared. They mean to rule the world one day, but the time is not yet right. They will let the wars rage and Warlords come and go, and when the time is right, they will seize power. All these forces and factions are created in painstaking detail, with richly drawn characters, engaging subplots, and interwoven storylines, perfect for anyone who wants a story they can sink their teeth into.
