Watery Whirlpool Vortex Teleport

First Post
There is a whirlpool of slow moving water in the center of an ancient water system. It radiates magic and is a portal of some sort.

Where does it go?

1) To the Elemental Plane of Water. An obvious choice
2) To a sunken city, perhaps that of an old forgotten ally (the sea elves) or a portal placed in anticipation of an invasion (sahaguin, kuo-toa)
3) To the Abyss, specifically Demogorgon's watery layer.
4) To a tiny oasis in the middle of the planet's largest desert.
5) To the demiplane lair of a nigh-godly water gensai wizard.
6) To another ancient water system in the city of the builder's allies.
7) To the source of the River Styx.
8) To the source of the River Oceanus.
9) Nowhere but a trap. The aura is a Nystul's magic aura spell.

Demiurge out.

Bah, screw the Elemental Plan of Water! :)

A world I designed had something similar (though in the ocean), but it led to a waterfall that went through the Elemental Plane of Air.

Some place with a megaladon big enough to swallow the entire party without any effort. The megaladon doesn't have to be anywhere near them, but the sight of which just sounds like a good scare. This could be the "pet shark" of just about anything else, or the characters could have been shrunk down to tiny size when they passed through the portal, or the whole thing could be an illusion, or any of the above (or below) options. I just like giant sharks.

It leads into the "back room" of a massive dungeon that uses the water as power to drive the traps. The PCs get to see a trap-laden dungeon from the villain's point of view, perhaps chasing the bad guys out into the dungeon itself.

It leads to an abandoned above-water city full of minor treasures, but if the treasures are disturbed, they will awaken the dead sahaugin, whose ghostly fetters are the treasures.

The city was raised above water/encased in a bubble of air beneath the ocean because of a <insert (dastardly/good) plot to rid the (land/ocean/whatever) of the (sahaugin/other people.)>
