*Grrrr*

Stupid parents offered to do my laundry for me... Shrunk my favorite shirt :(

Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to unshrink it? It's cotton. And yes, I know, some people say it can't be done, but I'm not willing to give up. Any folk remedies anyone has, at all?

No, I can't just replace it.

It's *close*! It didn't shrink much... Just an extra tiny bit would be enough.

Try washing it again, but by hand in cold water this time, and let it drip dry. I've only had it work on a wool sweater, but since the same things shrink cotton and wool it's worth a shot.

When this happens to my shirts I typically just wash it in the machine as usual and stretch it out by hand right when the machine is done.

Just be careful not to pop the seams.

I'll stretch the sleeves individually, then across the chest, then the waist, then the bottom of the shirt. Then I grap the collar and the hem and stretch the length back out.

This way I avoid popping the seams as I mentioned above.

Then I throw it on a hanger and let it air dry.

This is with T-Shirt material type shirts though since their weave is looser than a dress shirt.

De-Shrinking Shirt Folk Remedy

1 Large Cauldron
6 cups water
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp basil
3 drops concentrated Lime juice

Bring water to a boil. Add other ingredients. Let simmer. Remove heat. While cooling, place shirt in the cauldron. Wait til cool. Remove. Wash again.

*NOTE*
THIS IS HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL AND IS NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK (actually...its pretty much guaranteed not to work, but the average consumer doesn't need to know that...)

If it's just a little too tight it can be stretched some, if it is two sizes smaller than it used to be then there isn't much hope. There is just so much give in them before they rip.

Unless you're a nubile, 19-year-old girl, you may as well cut your losses and pitch the shirt - a shrunken shirt doesn't look good on anyone else. Or, hell, give it to a nubile, 19-year-old girl.

You might try steaming it with an iron or hand steamer. Steam relaxes the fibers and makes them somewhat stretchable again. My mother worked in dry cleaning as a trainer, so that's where I picked this up. No promises though.:D
