Hi all,

Extremely long time lurker here, and I do mean looong time lurker.

Edit: I started this with the need to vent off to people I for some reason see as 'fellows' but I just deleted the rantish remarks.

anyhoo, just got the official notice that I am layed off. I work for a non-profit company as the Director of IT, and a consulting company that donates a large amount of money to us has pushed and finally won over the administrators with their plan for support. It's hard to argue my salary against virtually free consultation and the promise of more donations. I have made sure that the techs under me still have their jobs for the next year, but they know the writing is on the wall.

So if any of you know of any positions available for a high level computer geek with over 7 years experiance in managing networks(Novell/MS/Linux), and almost double that for desktop work, let me know, I work cheap, and am willing to move out of the NJ area.

Rockwell Collins (http://www.rockwellcollins.com), following 9-11 had some layoffs of the factory floor and other positions. However, things are getting back to normal. Many of those let go are coming back and they are starting to hire a few people in information technologies and automation (machine placed parts) areas... you can try them.

I work i the Coralville Iowa facility. Let me know and I can get you an address to send a resume to.

Sell your soul; it'll feel good, you'll make money, and you probably weren't using it for much anyway.

Fannie Mae is a very large mortgage company with a somewhat embarassing name. You'll be putting people in houses and getting a great benefits package to boot.

Other than that, all I can say is look in the northern Virginia area. We have lots of IT jobs here. Lots and lots and lots.

Mike,

I am also in IT, and while my company is not currently hiring (lots of layoffs last year), I can tell you that the word in the Industry is that the "IT slump" is ending.

Jobs should be progressively easier to get. (as opposed to last year, when it would have been pretty much impossible)

I will keep mu eyes open for any of our customers in the NJ area looking for IT folk.

Good luck!

Hi-

Check out the jobs board for the University of Virginia here:

http://www.hrs.virginia.edu/seeking.html

The job search page is under "Career Opportunities." I can't say enough good things about Charlottesville, VA, and working for the University definitely has some big perks (great benefits, good work environment, lots of activites/events), once you get over the Thomas Jefferson obsession that streaches throughout EVERYTHING here. :)

Currently I see openings for a Network Support Lead, Installation & Repair Specialist, Network Support Tech, and 3 Programmer/Analyst positions. I'll warn you, the application process is a pain to go through, but I found it to be well worth it. (I work in the library as both a reference person and as tech support, so I could get you more tech info if you want it)

Plus, there is a fairly active gaming community here in C'ville, too.
:D

Good luck!
