First Post
I have lvl 10 wizard and was looking into various ways of increasing my Will - Fort - Reflex
saves. Other than the obvious ways let me know of anythinkg you have come accross that helped it.

What average save would you recomend having at level 10 for a wizard????

Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

Do you have craft wonderous item? Making/buying some cloaks of resistance would be a nice move... and if you have the feat- making the item for another body slot becomes a possibility. Gloves of dex, periapt of wisdom, and amulet of health also become options.

Obviously, theres lightning reflexes, iron will, and great fortitude. If you have a decent charisma score... complete adventurer (IIRC) has a feat that lets you use charisma instead of will for reflex saves.

Let's see... I wouldn't worry about will too much- people know wizards have high will saves, and probably won't target you with such attacks. Minor globe of invulnerability will help you to avoid needing to make the saves as often- and that may be the best track to take... avoid being in a position where you need to make saves. Stay to the back (or middle) or the party, maybe enough back to avoid Area effects... stay invisible when possible to avoid being targetted by rays... etc.

That's all that comes to mind off the top of my head.

PS/Edit: Look into various prestige classes- not all of them start out with a boost to will... the planeshifter in manual of the planes, and the mindbender (i think) in complete arcane give boosts to fortitude right off the bat. Even if you take a one level dip in it, you gain a +2 to SOME save, and usually some other nice ability.

Vest of resistance is in Complete Arcane...functions (and is priced) exactly the same as the cloak of resistance, but it takes up a less-popular body slot.

Some other standard DMG items that can help:

Pale green ioun stone: provides +1 competence bonus to attack rolls, saves, skill checks, and ability checks. A bit pricey at 30K, but has some other nice benefits too.

Stone of good luck: provides +1 luck bonus on saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks. Also a bit pricey (20K), but, again, has some other nice benefits.

Ohhh that would be excelet actualy - A vest of resistance - because im obviously not wearing any armour - great suggestion. Ahhh gota love the forum!

1) Cheapest & most efficient is the robe, cloak, vest, coif, pajamas -does it really matter what article of clothing? "thing of resistance.

2) By class: Monk & Favored Soul have best saves in all 3, 2 levels of Paladin = applying your cha to all saves

3) feats: iron will, lightening reflexes and imp. fortitude

4) increases the respective stats: amulet of health, gloves of dex, periapt of wisdom

Just to point it out, amulets and periapts are both... well they're both amulets, effectively. One's just named a periapt to make you learn a new word. A new word that's been frustrating combat clerics since 3rd edition.

Anyhow, if you're increasing saves, don't forget spells that increase saves. Greater Resistance and Superior Resistance, both found in the Spell Compendium, grant a +3 and +6 bonus to saves for 24 hours. Since they don't stack with a cloak of resistance, the greater version may not be worthwhile for you. Ruin Delver's Fortune, also SC, grants you a luck bonus to one of your saves equal to your Charisma modifier. It has a very short duration, but it's an immediate action, so it's good for at least one saving throw roll, as long as you have it memorized.
