Weapon of the Deity

Cedric

First Post
I was looking through the Magic of Faerun book...and came across the Weapon of the Deity spell.

One of the deities had a "Weapon of the Deity" of a +1 Keen Longbow.

Umm...is that legal?

Don't think the police will go and arrest him for owning forbidden weapons... :D

I'm not sure, but I think keen won't be applied to the ammunition.

I'd say the keen applies to the bow's threat range. Nothing wrong with it, since you can apply Keen to Piercing weapons, and arrows that are shot are piercing.

DMG p 187

"Only slashing weapons can be enchanted to be keen."

A keen bow is illegal. It is not on the ranged list nor does it apply to piercing weapons.

And I must note that no matter how much certain people in the field try to say that "enchant" is only used to apply to Enchantment spells, that this quote belies that. (old argument that I wasn't even invovled in).

Weapon of the Deity Spell?

I would say that a Deity can grant whatever weapon they like, after all, since when did the laws that govern mortals govern the gods?

It's still you who casts the spell. If the gods wouldn't have the rules, they could grant the clerics a spell that would rob the enemy of all the life force except a tiny bit, without allowing a save (hey, that sounds familiar)

Gods got the shaft! :D ;)

A keen bow is illegal. It is not on the ranged list nor does it apply to piercing weapons.

However, the Keen Edge spell has neither limitation.

Just treat the WotD bow as a +1 Bow with Keen Edge cast on it, and you're set.

Note that arrows in fact do not have a threat range, a damage type, or indeed a base damage. Those are all properties of the projectile weapon, not the ammunition.

Interestingly, that means that even though Keen Edge can double the threat range of 50 arrows, they have no threat range to double...
