Weapon Spec: missile

If you take the Weapon Specialization Feat: Missile (from T&B) and apply it to Flame Bolt (alsto T&B), you only get the +2 damage on the first bolt right? And it doesn't matter if you shoot bolts at different people.

Does the Weapon Focus (a prereq) only give you a +1 to hit with the first bolt as well?

I was actually thinking scud missiles, ICBMs, etc when I saw this topic :-)

Wonder how D20 modern handles it. LOL.

p.s. I think you have it right, but don't have my books, so can't really confirm.

The Spell Specialization feat (T&B) applies to either all energy missiles or all rays, as long as the target is within 30 feet. So multiple Flame Bolts would all do +2 damage, if the targets were all within range. Weapon Focus also applies to all attacks.

Are you thinking of Sneak Attack, maybe?

Specialization has the same limitation as Sneak Attack: Only once per attack.

If you fire multiple missiles/rays in a single attack, then only one of them is aimed precisely enough to get the extra damage.

If you have multiple attacks, and have a missile/ray that can be used on different attacks (instead of in a volley), then you make multiple attacks with it and gain the extra damage from specialization or sneak attack on each one. Produce Flame is an example of an energy missile spell that will allow you to do this.

This is covered in the D&D FAQ, and in a sidebar in Sword and Fist (in relation to shuriken, but the concept is the same).

Weapon Focus would apply to all your attack rolls though.
