I'm not sure what point of yours I've proven. My post is an agreement with Bob's observation about forum behavior, except that it is true on many forums, not just here. The majority (like 95%) of people who post, basically suck at logic. The repeatedly and frequently make non-sequitor arguments, ad hominems, false analogies, and a host of other problems. The more egregrious the offender, the more likely they hold a grudge when you point out problems with their reasoning and they will tend to come after you whenever you post. This problem is compounded when that someone is a "forum regular." People tend to see forums where they hang out a lot as their communities. The more that person posts, the more postive feedback they get from other regulars, the more likely they will develop a sense of pride that must be defended (but everyone does not respond the same). "Regulars" usually become friends with other regulars and then a natural and fascinating human thing happens: Those "regulars" develop a local culture and they form a clique. Yup, that word from highschool. The clique will often defends itself against those who challenge any member, a term I call dogpiling. Essentially what this leads to is conformity. All pretty standard stuff. Not very enlightened, but very typical. I'm not necessarily saying that this is specifically what has happened in this thread, just pointing out that what Water Bob talks about is a very common occurance on forums of just about any type. I don't know if that proves your point or not.
