From here on out on Monday's I'm going to do a status thread to go over what got accomplished over the prior weekend, since that's when most of the coding gets done. For those that haven't noticed ENWorld 2 is now under production This is what it is --
Over the weekend the Joomla integration was completed. Since Joomla will be bearing the weight anything not forums related it is highly important that this step be completed first. As other milestones are accomplished they will be noted.
Development of EN2 is occuring on a different virtual host entry. For the moment it is closed to the public (the technically savvy probably can figure out how to reach it though). Once all of its features are installed and believed to be working a 2 week beta test will be conducted where forum members can log in and play around. Posts made on the dev platform during that beta will be lost. Unless a major error is discovered during the beta the forums will be upgraded to them.
My target for Beta is late March, though if that date slips I won't be surprised. Certainly I want the site converted over in time for Gencon.
And that's pretty much all I have to report that hasn't been discussed before. I'll be happy to field questions about the upgrade.
- It will be a completely new code base with no legacy code from the current site.
- It will be powered by Joomla 1.0, vBulletin 3.6, bbpixelBridge, jReviews 1.0 and an estimated 3000 lines of custom code.
- It will use all of the nifty features you've seen at CircvsMaximvs and other vb 3.6 sites, and then some.
- The news section is getting a complete overhaul.
- The reviews are being moved to a new software suite (jReviews)
- It will clear the way for new feature additions based on the Joomla platform which are far more robust than those possible with the current codebase.
