Weird Item Cost

I was wondering... How would you figure out the cost for the following item?

A ring of disguise self that only lets you turn into one thing. For example, if Clark Kent had this ring, he could only disguise himself as Superman, but nothing else.

EDIT: Or a mask (instead of a ring)?...

Pretty cheap.

Hat of Disguise is normally 1800.

Call the ring an even 1k for simplicity's sake.

Hmm... Yeah, I was thinking that sounded about right... but I've never been the best at pricing magical items, especially slightlely weirder ones.

Thanks! :)

On a side note...why would Clark Kent want to disguise himself as Superman? Wouldn't Superman want to disguise himself as Clark Kent? I don't mean to be a punk about it, it just caught me as weird.

As for the actual topic I'd say that 1k sounds pretty fair. I like the idea of it being a mask for some reason.

For grand, I'd say it should be unslotted. If the sheer utility of the HoD is only costed at 1800, a single disguise on slotted item ought to be a lot less. 500 gp for a second face sounds reasonable if a thousand faces cost 1800 gp.

Well, I guess it works either way... I'd kind of imagine that if Clark Kent (or Peter Parker, Bruce Wayne, etc.) had one of these rings, though, they wouldn't want to walk around in their super outfit all day long with the "disguise" being who they really are (their secret identity). I dunno...

Ah, but is Superman really Clark Kent, or is Clark Kent really Superman?

Another option could be that given that the item turns the wearer into a particular, unique form (Clark Kent instead of Any Human) how about there being no disguise check involved? Can't see thru the disguise as it's essentially flawless.

Only does one thing, but it does it very well.

Clark Kent is really Superman. Superman's heroism derive from who he IS. His Identity.

The mere mortal of Clark Kent is a fiction. The "Clark Kent" of Smallville grew into Superman. Metropolis's Clark Kent is a disguise.

However, Batman is just billionaire (Remeber when he was just a millionaire) Bruce Wayne in funny tights.

Also, Spiderman gains his powers from an outside source, not his core identity.
