Here is what one of my Dms knocked together. What do you people think? Welcome to DND Welcome! Have you ever wanted to be a drunken goblin riding a headless horse with a fancy explode-y stick into battle? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a character like that and put it in the middle of a story and see the antics that might happen? Dungeons and Dragons may be the game for you! Here, you can create that character, put it to paper and tell a collaborative story with friends as if you were that character! Whether you’re a long time player, or you’re just a little Die-curious, there’s always fun to be had in roleplaying. How it works The most common scenario of this game is that the players (you and your friends) will be placed into a story via an impartial storyteller/referee. We call this person the Dungeon Master (DM). Your DM will present scenarios to your character that happen in this story, and you will tell the DM what your character does in response. The DM will then describe how the imaginary world reacts and changes via your character’s decisions. Sometimes what you do may be challenging for your character. In this case, the DM will ask you to roll a twenty sided die (a d20) and add a number that signifies your character’s proficiency with the skill required. The DM will make up a number that you must match or beat with the total number you get to determine the success or failure of the task your character is trying to complete. Success or fail, the world still moves and reacts. Remember, failing is half the fun! Where do we get these numbers? Fortunately for us, some people of varying degrees of intelligence have made rules for this game already! You will be given (and hopefully one day make) a character sheet that represent the skills that your character have honed and trained over their life time. This sheet will give numerical values to these skills that will be used in the game to help tell your story. Unfortunately, like real life, people can’t be good at everything so it’s important to make really good friends. This is a team game, after all. That’s cool. How can I start? You’ve already done the hardest part! The easiest way to start is to talk to a near DM and see if they can accommodate you in their game. Almost everyone is receptive to new players and will be happy to teach you the ins and outs of the game as we play.
