Yeah, that's what I paid for, for two years...but at least I ended up with a good encounter manager...er...well at least I ended up with some integrated tools...well, there is always the magazines...

I am sure the mods will censure me, but if you think that you were paying for that for 2 years you have got to be one of the most oblivious people in the world. It was documented a couple months prior to DDi's release that the 3d VT would not be released with it.

If you're sure the mods will censure you, and you post anyways, we're generally a lot less forgiving. I'd suggest planning accordingly. No insults, please. ~ Piratecat

To be fair there was a fairly continuous string of promises that the character visualizer and virtual table top would be released as soon as the final bit of hammering and polish were done.

Okay, fine, one and a half years before it was indefinitely postponed, and then the remaining half year I paid in the hope that an item builder, encounter manager, etc. would come out.

But, back to the topic on hand.
The VTT that they are building there would be nice once they get drag-and-drop integration from the character builder and monster builder. They probably will also have a digital dungeon tile service, but that will hopefully be included in the DDi price.
Of course, most the people in my area that were excited by the idea of the DDi Gametable (tm) will look at what is being offered and say "Hell, that looks like MapTools, but with less functionality." So I doubt this will win many of those people back.
Perhaps, though, if they start offering map/encounter packs to go along with the published adventures, they will be able to get a new generation to adopt D&D.

And as for the FLGS, this is actually a boon for them. Finally they can get the Pen and Paper crowd out of there to make more room for the (more profitable) CCG crowd. At least, I'm pretty sure my not-quite-so-friendly-local-game-store looks at it that way.

No, you didn't.

When it became clear that WotC would not be able to deliver the full suite of tools they had promised at launch, they adjusted the initial Insider price accordingly. At no point were you paying for the VTT. You paid for the tools that existed at the time you paid for them.

Let's not be terrible consumers now, hmm?
