I bought Dark Heresy today at Waterstones in London. I got it back to the office, logged on to the Black Industries website as recommended by the guy behind the counter. He had said that they offered excellent free download material, and I was thinking I would grab some of that. Saw the announcement. Looked at the time it was posted, realised it must have literally be while I was in the bookshop buying the damn thing. At first I felt like I had been mugged. Then I thought ... hey, another bit of gaming history to add to the collection! Gamesworkshop is not doing well, BTW. Their stock is at a very low price right now (by historical standards, it may well still be over-priced, so I ain't recommending a purchase). Their interim results were posted on the 22nd of January, and they announced a loss, and also a write down for a big internal cost cutting exercise. I am guessing that this is part of that exercise. They have been pretty woefully managed over the last few years, and they lost BIG on over-stocking Lord of the Rings games and under-estimating just how quickly that bubble would burst. They turned White Dwarf into a LoTR magazine, alienated a lot of their core base, and then saw the sales plummet for LoTR. They are currently in a very messy situation, and no doubt are going to refocus on their core products for a while to try and regain profitability. Anyway, I am now the proud owner of Dark Heresy. I won't buy any of the other bits, but at least I have this little nugget of history in my hands.
