What’s a song that makes you cry (not just from sadness, but from feeling too much)?

Lately, I’ve noticed I’ve been fully present in certain moments. I hear a song and it just hits — I get completely lost in it. Some tracks stir something so deep it makes me want to cry, not because I’m sad, but because I feel everything at once.

Here’s my top list:
  1. Champagne Coast – Blood Orange
  2. Lovesong – Adele
  3. Black Friday (Pretty Like The Sun) – Lost Frequencies & Tom Odell
  4. Mr Sandman – SYML

Do you have songs like that too? Drop them here especially if they have a similar vibe to Champagne Coast. I’d love to listen.

Circle of Life by Elton John from The Lion King. That one had me crying right from the opening of the movie, and there's nothing intrinsically sad about the scene.
Oh yes, I absolutely love The Lion King. As a kid, you watch it one way — the colours, the animals, the adventure. But as an adult, it hits completely differently. You start noticing the little details, the emotions beneath the surface. And that song… Circle of Life... it captures so perfectly what life really is — this mix of everyday existence filled with both pain and beauty, sorrow and love, all happening at once.

There are some songs that get me for fairly personal reasons or when I'm feeling particularly emotional about certain things - and this can be highly variable. A song that really moves me right now might not have done so 10 years ago. Or I might just have been a particular mood and vulnerable to the emotions that come up as the song plays.
But songs that have done this include:

"Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon - from the Wild Thornberrys soundtrack. For my elder daughter and me, it's pretty much always been our song. I even made a custom ringtone out of it for when she calls me.

"In a Big Country" by Big Country - it didn't used to get me, but given how things are going, it sure does get me now and I'm fighting to stay resilient in the face of <waves hands around> all this.

"Lovers in a Dangerous Time" by Bruce Cockburn - doesn't hit me too hard, but DAMN, does it have one of the greatest lyrics in music - "Got to kick at the darkness til it bleeds daylight". That's an emotional punch right there that I'm trying to harness every effing day.

I think it’s beautiful how certain songs that might not mean much to others can hold so much value for you because of the memories they carry. Lately, I’ve been rethinking what life is really about — and now I genuinely cherish memories and emotions. That’s what makes us feel alive.

I’m truly happy you have songs like that in your life. I’ve only recently started to feel this myself. Thank you for sharing.

"No Man's Land (The Green Fields of France)" by Eric Bogle

I will never be able to sing that song all the way through...

Green Day's "Time of Your Life"

Doesn't make me cry or anything, but does have a particular significance... The first time I heard that song was at Rocky Horror - one of our former cast members had passed away from brain cancer or something like that, and they played that song as a tribute.
