Seeing as the PCs at level 8-10 had more or less the same AC as at level 4, the hobgoblins' +3 attack bonus/d8+1 (with a possible extra +2d6) damage remained relevant to the rest of the encounter, and was annoying the party enough that they used a fairly high-level AOE spell (maybe insect plague?) to deal with them.</blockquote>
