What are these blank emails?

I've received an influx of completely blank emails today - probably 10 to 20 so far. No sender, no header, no message, no attachments, no anything. Just blank space in my inbox.

What are these things? Is this some kind of existential virus spam? Is my email provider having hiccups?

Combined with everything else that's gone off this weekend, I'm not in the mood to be spammed.

It's probably a spam sending application acting up. To send an email an email client (or a spam sending client) connects to a server and tells it, in a very specific way, to send an email to you. If the program is poorly written (it probably is, being used for spam) it will put linebreaks and dots in the wrong places and otherwise "forget" how to properly communicate with the email server. The result is a blank useless e-mail.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
