A treaty was signed nearly 2000 years  ago, but must be renewed every 700 years by a challenge. Sometimes a puzzle, sometimes combat... but never predictable. The last time, humanity lost the challenge, but maintained the treaty. As a result, the aliens wiped out nearly a third of the western population of Europe in retribution: the Black Plague. However, this time, some on both sides are trying to break the treaty and start armageddon... and even if the treaty remains intact, failure in the challenge means losing 1/3 of our population again. Only this time, it could affect the entire world.</blockquote>
