[QUOTE="Cadence, post: 9686198, member: 6701124"] I'm kind of partial to Author > Publication Date of (first) Book (in series) > Publication Date within Series (if it is in one) If nothing else because I would smile when I saw the Narnia books in the correct order. Is Poetry outside of Fiction/Non-fiction? If the poetry was willy-nilly mixed in with the rest of fiction I would never browse to find them. And I think I would prefer the anthologies to be in a separate section from the collections - although the "edited by" on the spine would at least help locate them. Would the mixing of fiction genres similarly hurt browsing? When I was younger, I'm not sure how many romance or horror or historical fiction books I would have started reading the back cover of before I got frustrated and stopped browsing - and I never would have started some sci-fi/fantasy series. Is classification in non-fiction much less arbitrary? The books in my research field are mostly in either BF 39, BF176, HA1-32, LB3051-3060, QA276-280 in the library - and it seems really, really arbitrary where some of the books end up. Even in this case I think its interesting to look at the titles on the shelf of my targeted book when I go (more rarely than I used to) to pick one out - and I will sometimes grab an extra. Having all the non-fiction just sorted by author for the whole collection would mean I probably wouldn't do that. Would you put graphic novels go with the rest of fiction or in their own section?
