What are your D&D plans for 2014?

Now that its confirmed that 5E is coming out this summer, I assume that many campaigns will be winding down or transitioning.

So what are your plans? Is it business as usual or are preparing for 5E?

As for me, my 4E campaign dwindled away about a year ago but I'm working on a campaign world for 5E that I hope to get started sometime in February. We'll use the playtest rules and then transition to the official rules when they come out. Pretty excited about it!

Finishing up Rise of the Runelords, probably taking a short break from D&D/Pathfinder to do some Shadowrun or Numenera or homebrew as a change of pace, then jumping into Shattered Star.

My spouse is also thinking about running an Emerald Spire campaign, which would be the first time we have two games running in a long time.

I'll probably check out what's up with 5e at GenCon. Maybe grab a pickup game if the final rules are out, see if it's worth adding to the shelves.

Cheers!

My plans are uncertain. I have two campaigns running now. One is a paragon-level 4E game currently playing through Against the Giants. I consider this game winding down since the PCs are 13th level and we discussed skipping the epic tier back when we started it. We have played several 4E Level 1 to Level 30 games already. The other game is fairly new 4E campaign. The PCs are level 2 and they just completed playing through Château d'Amberville in a converted to 4E from 2E rendition of the Mark of Amber boxed set (with CD audio). :p

The Amber campaign is young and could run for a while yet. The players include 3 brand new to 4E ones, 3 veteran 4E players, and one somewhat familiar with 3E/4E player. Originally I considered doing a nostalgic first edition or second edition game (or even Castles & Crusades) but some of the players were very hesitant to return to the old school system of declared actions. It was just easier to continue with 4E so we went that route.

I have enough 4E materials to play it forever if I wanted to. I do intend on trying out 5E at-least in the convention setting once it becomes available and if a desirable system of tournament play becomes available. For that matter, personally, I wouldn't be opposed to playing 3rd edition or any D&D edition as long as it was a fun group. So for me: 5E doesn't mean an end to 4E just like 4E didn't mean an end to 3E. Our group switched to fourth edition after the Player's Handbook II was in stores largely cause we were bored with 3E power-gaming (mostly from third party add-ons and splat books) and ready for some change. Third edition was great and we had a lot of fun just like we did with fourth edition. So uncertain future with my group.

My current 4e campaign is just about to wrap up the heroic tier. I was thinking about taking a 4e break and try PF but after looking into that I may continue the 4e game through paragon into low or mid epic.

Hopefully at that point 5e will be out and we can give that a try. One of my players is really anti-5e at this point (boring classes) but I hoping to get him to at least try the final game. Then either play 5e the rest of the year or try something else if 5e doesn't work for us (probably more 4e then).

With my sons we just started a BX game. Not sure if it will stay purely BX or if we will go to BECMI levels. We will probably try 5e as well.

My Pathfinder campaign just hit the planes, so gleefully continuing it, and probably doing horrible, evil things to the PCs therein. :D

I'm slowly putting together notes for a new 5E campaign world (some of which I've been posting about here on my blog). It's set in the dying days of an empire ruled by giants, after the world has endured a terrible deluge. I've set a few playtest adventures there - one of which I'm hoping to write up for EN World's upcoming adventure writing competition!

One of my groups is ready to move on to 5E. We've just wrapped up our long-running 3E campaign, so I have a bunch of players looking to start a new one!

Beyond that, my 4E group is still going strong, but we don't meet so often now - just a long weekend every couple of months or so. I'm also playing a few 1E games here and there with a new group. We played through Ravenloft the other week, and we're hoping to work through a few more of the classics this year.

I don't think there's ever been a year like 2013 for playing so many different editions at the same time! We've been having a blast.

I'm running a 4e campaign; it's new and it's supposed to go 20 levels. My group has another 4e game and will start a 13th Age game soon. None of us have any interest in 5e.

I have enough 4e material forever, and I personally own all the 4e books I need too. Eventually the DDI 4e will be shut down (nest year? 20 years from now maybe?) and Operating Systems won't be able to handle the Character Builder. For me that's not a problem, but the only other player in the group who doesn't use an electronic character sheet only does so because their laptop died and they're saving for another one.

Down the line my current 4e campaign should wrap up mid-paragon. To be honest I am really looking forward to it ending....

...because Jan van Leyden and me are planning for the next 4e Campaign that will play in Ptolus. We try out taking turns DMing so that I can finally play in a D&D Campaign as a (part-time) player :)
