I've been pretty nostalgic lately, thinking about the evolution of movies in the Fantasy genre, so I decided to list my top 5 of all time. I'd like to see what movies everyone else likes as well, so, what's your top 5? 1. The Two Towers: I felt that, of all the movies in the trilogy, Peter Jackson handled this one the best. The Extended version is much better than the one which appeared in the movie. I loved the battle for helm's deep in spite of the fact that in the books there were no elves there. I do think the encounter with Shelob should have been left at the end of the movie. 2. Conan The Barbarian: Great sword and sorcery movie. This is one of those movies that sparked my imagination and shaped my early ideas about what kinds of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns I wanted to play and run. 3. Dragon Slayer: Another classic fantasy movie. 'nuff said. 4. Legend: Though not a huge fan of Tom Cruise, I loved this movie. Great tale of good and evil. 5. The Fellowship of The Ring (Extended version): Too many inconsistancies to rate it higher, but still one of my all-time favorites. Ian McKellen brought Gandalf to life. The scene on the Bridge of Khazad-dum was near-perfect. Sean bean's portrayal of Borimir was also another highlight of this movie. He brought redemption to the character. And who better to play Saruman than Christopher Lee?
