Some of the things that I've bought aren't that bad (or bad at all), but the key thing for me (primarily) is the limited or lack of use. But, of course, hindsight is always 20/20. In hindsight, I would not have purchased: Sword & Fist, Defenders of the Faith, Tome & Blood, Song & Silence, Masters of the Wild: With the new batches of 3.5 splat books being released, I would probably have given these books a miss. I liked some ideas in them, but i never had the time or opportunities to use them in game. Creature Catalog 1 & 2: There were some cool monsters in these books, but nothing really grabbed my attention. Down the line, I may pick up the 3.5 Creature Catalog, but honestly, I may not need to. Relics & Rituals: There was little from this book that really interested me for my campaign. Some of the magic items were interesting, but ultimately, I think I could hav elived without it. Seafarer's Handbook: The basic ship info I needed is covered in the Arms & Equipment Guide. Mythic Races:There were very few races that I was interested in using. Kingdoms of Kalamar: My g/f was sort of interested in the setting, but all that it has done is sit on the shelf. Lot of nifty fluff in there, but since I prefer to use my homebrew setting, it turned out not to be a worthwhile purchase for me. Savage Species:I really like the half-ogre stats in the back, & it did help me get a somewhat better grasp of ECL, but I don't particularly care for the idea of allowing monster PCs (even if they're levelled out). HackMaster Player's Handbook: Nice mix of "blast-from-the-past" & humor when I first read through it, but it's another dust collector on my shelf. Faiths & Pantheons: Never had a cleric of one of the deities listed in this book--pretty much could have gotten by with the FRCS deities. Plus, never used any of the PrCs, either. Lords of Darkness: Became a dust collector for me, since I wound up creating my own groups of villains (instead of extensively using an established one, like the Zhentarim or Twisted Rune). OTOH, I'm quite happy I purchased: Maiden Voyage module: It's a cool module that provided me a way to keep a sea voyage interesting. Draconomicon: Helped me out a lot with a group of 5 dragon-riding villains I was working on. Also like the other draconic materials provided (like dragonbone & dragonfang). Dragon and Dungeon subscriptions: Love the Maps of Mystery (the continent one by C. West is the world map for my homebrew setting), the Critical Threats, Dungeoncraft articles, & lots of other interesting stuff. And, I can't forget to mention Nodwick, either.
