What do you guys think Tony Stark's (Iron Man) Intelligence Score would be?
I figure his Int would start at 16 (3e or d20 Modern) or 17-18 (4e), with the usual level bonuses. He's intelligent, but outside of a few fields he doesn't need to be a super-genius. Also, he has decent physical stats (Dex is most important for a flying power-armor using character - he doesn't need a huge amount of Strength with the bonuses the suit gets, and he has a low Con backed up by loads of AC) and I think he should still be point bought. His best stats are probably (in order) Int, Cha and Dex. Instead of a huge Int, I would give him either the savant talent and levels of Smart (d20 Modern - he could get a +10 bonus this way) or in 4e terms a skill power that lets him make Intelligence skill checks with huge bonuses once per encounter (if I want him to be a genius, getting a eureka moment once per battle or skill challenge) or daily (if I just want him to be an inventor). Getting a +5 bonus to a skill check is roughly the equivalent of having 10 more levels or having 10 higher Intelligence, and I doubt as an inventor that Stark needs to be making more than one invention skill check per day. If Stark is 10th-level and has a +5 bonus once per day, he's effectively 20th-level (or a tad under, due to lack of a few ability bumps) when he makes an invention check. I suspect he's paragon level because, well, you can't be an Avenger if you're "merely heroic". Stark is a great inventor because he's specializing in that area, and because characters of his level (whatever you want that to be) are pretty rare. Stark's invention skill bonuses might only be a few points ahead of other rival inventors. Doesn't Richards have a template that boosts his Int? Actually, a lot of "genius" characters in the Marvel Universe might have simply started with an 18. Spider-Man, for instance. Professor X and Beast might be smarter, if only because super-Int are one of their lesser powers. (There's a level of intelligence "stats" on the Marvel Wiki, which I believe was originally based on official stats... although those stats vary considerably depending on the author.)
