Or those people could do that on their own. Its easy as a DM to stop in the middle of a campaign and to wing a feasable end to it. To add, some people enjoy playing high level characters. Im a big fan personally of low level play (my fave levels being 1-6), but I do enjoy the high level stuff when I get there. Most of the ealry 3rd edition great modules were mostly within that 1-12 (or parts thereof) range or a tad higher ending at level 13-14. Not much was past that. High level (and high quality) adventures are finally coming in fast and furious, most of it IMO, from Dungeon magazine. The writers are talented and know the rules well enough to make it enjoyable. Long stat blocks cant really be avoided at that level, and at that level we should be doing epic deeds. I dont know why people say we had "too many" epic endings already. IMO, we only had 1 out of 2 EPIC endings in the APs so far. That was the AoW.... Kyuss would have plagued the world if we failed. In the SC, at worst we would have lost Cauldron, and eventually Sasserine and that remote corner of the world to the Carcerian hordes. So the SC wasnt that epic (at least in aftershocks). Yeah, the fiends would have tried to spread out of the Amedio jungle eventually but Kyuss was a far greater danger (again IMO).
